Norfolk Stained Glass

Oxborough Hall Chapel of Our Lady and St Margaret, Norfolk

exterior of Located in the grounds of Oxborough Hall the current chapel dates from the 1830s. It was constructed around the time of the Oxford Movement prior to the dominance of Neo Gothic architecture. It is a relatively plain red brick  building overlooking meadows.
The majority of the windows are simple Early English lancets which contain an intriguing mix of continental and English glass, much of it dating from the middle ages. Amongst the collection is an early 13th century panel (apse window 1) believed to be the earliest stained glass in the county. Much of the glass was reset in the 20th century by  G King & Sons.
Apart from the glass, of particular interest is the Antwerp triptych. Although it dates from the 19th century, this beautiful altar piece is made from 16th century materials.
